Andosol Symposia at the                                     
World Conference of Soil Science (WCSS; 2006, USA)

The next World Conference of Soil Science (WCSS) will be in Philadelphia, USA, July 9-15 2006 (see www given below).  The Congress decided to devote a special symposium to volcanic soils.  The session is titled “Andisols and Related Soils”, 1.3PA (Poster Symposia).

It is intended to address the latest information on Andisol genesis, processes, interactions between organic matter and short range order minerals, analytical problems, regional distribution, and landscape relationships.  It will include influences of human activity, and consequences for soil protection, land use planning and management.

Deadline for abstracts has been extended to December 1.

The symposium will be convened by Olafur Arnalds, Peter Buurman and Reinhold Jahn.  We urge all interested in volcanic soils of the world to participate.
