WHAT ARE ANDOSOLS?
Andosols are soils that form in the active volcanic regions of the world. These soils have special properties that make them an important and unique natural resource. They are also called Andisols (U.S.).
Andosols are usually very fertile soils and they occur in some of the most densely populated areas of the world. However, these soils are vulnerable to disturbance such as soil erosion and landslides.
Andosols occur in some of the most popular tourist areas of Europe, and are therefore subjected to increasing pressure by humans, such as urban expansion and pollution.
